Mountain (offroad) biking is a specific type of cycling which typically takes place on dirt roads (referred to as a fire road, double track or singletrack). Mountain biking requires a completely different set of skills, as compared to road cycling. Mountain Biking will test your balance, agility, cardiovascular endurance, power and overall body strength. The most distinctive characteristic of mountain biking (compared, for example, to road cycling) is the explosiveness demanded of both the upper and lower body. Mountain biking will require the rider to constantly change direction and maintain control when riding over or around different obstacles in your path…it is an exhilirating sport and, no doubt, one of the hardest workouts you will ever experience.
Requirements: Mountain bike, helmet, protective sunglasses, protective pads (knee/shin, forearm/elbow) gloves, cycling shoes. www.usacycling.org
