Martha’s Vineyard : Road Cycling

Martha’s Vineyard, Massachusetts is one of the most unique, iconic destinations in the United States. The island has so much to offer…there is everything to do or nothing to do…it all depends on your speed and how you roll…but, the one thing it does have are perfect roads to bike on…dirt roads, bike paths, and perfectly maintained asphalt roads for road cycling…perfect road means GO FAST, REAL FAST!

People come from all over the world as the “Vineyahd” (referred to by the locals) has become a major destination for family vacations, rest and relaxation or simply to take in the incredible beauty of the island, especially during the more temperate months of the year…

Sitting on the beach, taking in mass quantities of Vitamin D, walking through old Edgartown, where the whaling captains built their mansions on North Water and South Water Streets, the shopping, picking up a few fudge bars at famous Murdick’s Fudge…hitting the Bunch of Grapes bookstore in Vineyard Haven, or a having a slice of heaven (pizza) at Giordana’s in Oak Bluffs, eating fresh lobster on Dutcher Dock or watching the sunset at Menemsha Beach, in Chilmark, is priceless!

And, then there’s Aquinnah, the outermost part of the island, a little desolate, not much there, but again amazing roads to ride on…bomb all the way down South Road, to Lobsterville Road and Moshup Road…some of the most beautiful road cycling anywhere in the world, because it all runs along the Atlantic Ocean…it doesn’t get any better!

And, make sure your rental property has an outdoor shower…there’s nothing like getting a nice wetdown in the great outdoors after a hard ride…so, I am happy to lead a private or group ride…the shorter course is approximately 30+ miles and the long version is closer to 50+ miles…there aren’t many hills on the Vineyard, but there is a lot of flat road for those triathletes, looking to get in some good training rides, while at the same time enjoying the iconic beauty of Martha’s Vineyard…so, bring the family and come join us anytime!
